After a convincing win in the Omloop van Vlaanderen, Lander De Potter and Jasper Maelfait were once again at the top of the standings after the 12 stages of the East Belgian Rally 2025. This gives them a substantial lead for the Spa Rally final.

With nine teams at the start of the East Belgian Rally, the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup Belux proved to be in excellent health! Moreover, many drivers proved capable of a shot at victory, resulting in a lively battle between the Opel Corsas Rally4 and Peugeot 208 Rally4.

Around Sankt Vith, De Potter, Ippen, or Merlevede were expected to lead, but Corentin Dozot and Coline Fallay set the first two fastest times, winning by a narrow margin. Though the 208 Rally4 pair led SS4 too, Lander Depotter ended the first loop two seconds ahead of Dozot.

As the stages dried, Depotter pushed even more and won all four fastest times in the second loop. Unfortunately, that loop ended the rally for Nard Ippen and Jorie Christiaens. A broken driveshaft had already damaged the engine during shakedown, and the same issue came up again during the rally. This ended Ippen’s last chance at the title.

On the final loop, Lander Depotter secured two additional fastest times, making him the logical and deserved winner in Sankt Vith. He immediately added an extra 30 points to his name in the Stellantis Cup standings. “I’d never won here before, but I wasn’t thinking about it before the start,” said the young Flemish driver. “After our victory in Roeselare, I was completely confident. We stayed focused all day, and I adjusted my rhythm to Lukas Thiele’s. And that’s what led to the victory!”

Because he had used his joker in Sankt-Vith, German Lukas Thiele, co-driven by Loris Elst, became the other big winner of the penultimate round of the Stellantis Cup. After setting the fastest time in the penultimate stage, Thiele collected 29 points, keeping his title hopes alive.

For Manuel Merlevede and Thomas Cloet, however, it was definitely over, as they had to retire in the eleventh stage with a broken brake pedal. The driver had been complaining about a lack of confidence since the start of the rally, especially with the brakes. At the start of the final loop, he was still in fourth place.

This East Belgian Rally will also always be synonymous with a great performance for Corentin Dozot, who gave it his all from start to finish. He was rewarded with a podium finish, 52 seconds behind the winner. This result also moves the young Dozot into the top 5 in the standings.

Corentin Fiasse and Adrien Hauteclair also put in a strong performance with their well-known 208 Rally4, finishing fourth in the East Belgian Rally. Behind them, Sergio Plattes and Andreas Palm struggled to translate their knowledge of the stages into good times. Nevertheless, they finished in the top 5, staying ahead of the 208 Rally4 of the Irish duo Niall O’Sullivan-Michael Hamilton and the 208 of Steven Spittaels-Hans Verhaege.

After this competitive East Belgian Rally, Lander Depotter now leads Lukas Thiele by 22 points (108 to 86). The title will be decided at the Spa Rally, where, unlike in some past editions, only a single points system will be used. For Depotter, finishing and earning enough points will be key.

Following in the standings are Manuel Merlevede (44 pts), who will not start in Spa, Corentin Fiasse (35 pts), Corentin Dozot (35 pts), Lander Dhaene (31 pts), Maxim Decock (27 pts), Niall O’Sullivan (24 pts), Nard Ippen (24 pts), Valery Revillod (23 pts), Steven Spittaels (22 pts), Sergio Plattes (21 pts), and Simon Rubrecht (13 pts).

The 2025 Spa Rally will be held during the last weekend of November.

After a convincing win in the Omloop van Vlaanderen, Lander De Potter and Jasper Maelfait were once again at the […]

[44

post-5760","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-44
